This enamelling technique, developed in Asia in the 16th century, is entirely handmade in China. To achieve this crackled finish, the ceramic pieces are immersed in water directly from the oven. This significant thermal shock leads to the appearance of cracks and the metallic effect of the colour. The colour, the cracks and the final shape of each piece depends on the temperature, the length of time in the oven, the thickness of the enamel and the mode of application.
